Free Babysitter?

Every time my husband and I take our son outside the neighbors (apartment building) let their kids out to play too- but they don't send any adults out. The kids ages range from 1 to 8 with as many as 6 kids out at once- since they have a lot of friends over.

I end up as the free babysitter. Keeping their kids out of the street and entertaining them. I've thought about just not watching them- but I can't morally let a 1 or 2 year old wander out into the street.

How do I tactfully let them know that I'm not a free babysitter?

  • Make a joke about it, 10 dollars an hour lady!
Take your kid out to a different park, since they only do it when your outside. Good luck!

  • I don't think young children should be outdoors unsupervised. They don't know any better and things happen so quickly like if a ball rolls into the street one of the them is likely to go and get it without watching for cars. Kids react without thinking sometimes.

  • Bring them back home, every time this happens. Let the parents know that you are unable to watch their children.
