how to keep fruit in a salad from turning brown?

especially bananas, they turn brown and to mush...any ideas on keeping the texture and color intact for all the fruits(basics pears peaches, nanas, manderine oranges strawberries..)

  • Pour orange juice over the whole salad. It adds wonderful flavor and it keeps all the fruit fresh. All the hotels we stayed in when we were in Spain did this. We have been doing it ever since.

  • pineapple juice, it works the same way lemon juice does but is sweeter.

  • i always have a bowl of lemon juice in water sitting nearby so as i cut fruit i toss it in the bowl. when im done cutting it up i stir it up real quick then take it out with a slotted spoon to drain excess liquid.

  • I've only heard of using lemon juice for this, but I love the suggestions to use a bowl of water mixed with lemon juice and the one to use pineapple (I like pineapple better than lemon). Neat ideas!

  • I agree, lemon juice. Although I've never found it to work on bananas.
