how to you get something out of a small childs eye?

A few weeks ago my 3 year old was crying about something in his eye. I didn't see anything and didn't know what to do. So I licked his eye! I know it sounds crazy but it worked and whatever was bothering him stopped. Then a few days ago my 9 month old was rubbing her eye and couldn't even open it. She had it sooo red so I did the same thing for her and it worked again! I'm not sure if there is a better way with small children. Anyone else had to do this or am I just weird.

  • I let them cry, the tears will clean out the eye.

  • Human saliva is loaded with bacteria; you could wind up giving your child conjunctivitis. Have your child blink, a lot, to make tears, and wash out the eye.
