Your cervical mucous changes during your cycle. the first few days after you period you will notice that it is dry...then it will become wetter but it will be crumbly/clumpy, then it will become wet but will dry in the air, after that it will become egg like where it is gooey/stretchy/thick, then it will dry out a little and then your period will come.
During the egg-like time, you are fertile and may ovulate. I say "may" because the mucous only indicates that you are fertile, not that you have ovulated. Ovulation is tracked by your basal body temp.
