# How many calories do I need to take in to lose weight. I'm 4'11.5" and weigh 205 lbs.

I've finally gotten into the habit of eating healthy...YAY ME!! But how many calories do I need to lose weight? I exercise for about 20 minutes a day right now. In the process of working on the exercise part.

• You need to burn more than you take in. Aim for 2000. Exercise twice daily for 30 min each to start

Use this calorie calculator to get the exact number, then make sure that most of those you take in are in the form of fresh fruits, vegetables, and lean protein. Eat several smaller portions throughout the day to keep your blood sugar steady and prevent overeating out of extreme hunger. Keep up the good work on the exercise--when I first started, I couldn't do more than 15 minutes at a time. Now I'm a fitness junkie and can go for more than an hour at an intense level. Good luck and kudos on aiming for better health!

• I need your age first...go to webmd.com and type in BMR calculator for females.
For ME- I am 35 years old, 117 lbs and 5'1"... my BMR is 1286 ( this is what I burn being idle all day long)...my daily caloric needs or what I need to maintain and be active is: 1286*1.55=1993..... If I want to lose 1 lb per week, I have to consume between 1286 and 1993 calories per day.

• Normal intake of calories for most people is 2200 daily. However, if you are active they suggest that you take in considerably more which gets used as energy.

• 3500 calories=1 lb. To lose weight you need to keep that in mind. Stick to a 1200 calorie diet and exercise plan and you will lose weight. Also muscle burns more calories than fat does, so do some weight training too. Good luck!!
