Medicaid/Midwife Question

Does anyone know if midwives are covered in Illinois under medicaid? I would rather not have an OB who I feel is more concerned about their schedule then delivering a child on the baby's schedule.

  • I think it depends on the midwife.

I was in NC but first I went to the health department, then they asked which of their associated Drs or midwife I wanted. I asked for the midwife.

if that doesn't work for you, their website should give you a list of all approved drs/midwifes you can pick from.

  • Some are, some are not. If you are in Chicago, send me a message and I can get you in contact with a great maternity resource

  • You would have to ask your caseworker about that, or call the info number on your card. Some supplemental plans cover midwives; again, you would have to call and ask to be sure.
