  • Nope. If you adopt, you adopt. That child becomes your child, your legal responsiblity. You do not get paid or helped out by the government because you choose to adopt a child.

  • No unless you qualify for things like foodstamps due to low income.

When you adopt a child, you are saying you take full responsibility for that child, including financially. The state doesn't give you a paycheck for adopting.

  • You can add the baby into your household..and apply for assistance.
But for you to get like financial assistance from the state for her, she would have to be a foster child, not an adopted one.
Call social services, you may be able to find out more information from them.

  • No. I worked with a couple children who lived with their grandparents. And the grandparents actually chose not to adopt them because of this reason. Because the grandparents wouldn't be able to financially have taken care of them. Yet another way the system has made it easier to stay on assistance. But adopting them would make you their parent and then nothing could happen, as in no one else could end up with them.

  • There are always government programs out there that can help you. I would check with your local food stamp office or medicaid office for any programs that can be of assistance to you. Also, I believe when you adopt you get a special tax credit come tax time. Also, you will be eligible to EIC for that child come next tax season if you adopt him/her this year. Good luck and best wishes.
