when your child has been away from you for a long time how do you get back in their lifes without hearting them for example my kids are in florida with their grandmother and im in ny they have been away for almost 1 year and now im moving back there with them

the girls are in florida and im in ny and im now going back to see them after 1 year of not being able to see them

  • I am glad that you want to reenter your childs life. I would recommend taking it slow. This will cause the least amount of disruption and give you all a chance to reconnect

  • Go slow. Every single tiny infinitesimal thing you say you're going to do with/for them, do it! They need to see you as trustworthy. If you break promises, it'll only hurt them. Good luck Mom111

  • Understand they will have emotions they may not be able to express, which they might act out.
    They might say things they don't mean, just to see if you really mean to stay or if they might lose you again. They are probably confused about the changes and will need time to get used to things now that you are with them again. You know how kids love their routines. Maybe you could do a special thing every day, like read a story or sing a song to them at bedtime, or do their hair however they want it done. Little things add up. Good luck and best wishes to you!
