what time do your kids go to bed for school nights?

how old are they? when do you start making them go to bed at their school night bed time? i think i need to prepare my kids because this summer they have pretty much been allowed to stay up till they are tired. when should i start that?

  • My kids are 5 and 8 and they go to bed at 8 and 8:30. We've been going to bed at normal time all summer, but we have started getting up earlier this last week.

  • well i would start a routine 2 weeks before school starts. my son's school is early (7:30-1:55), so he has to go to sleep by 7:30 the latest, and get up at 6am

  • My kids are teenagers but I shoot for between 9 and 10 pm. Sometimes my daughter (15) goes to bed around 8 pm and sometimes my son (17 and taking advanced classes) is up till midnight doing homework.

  • My DD is going to be starting school this year kindergarden. She stays up until 10, but I am getting ready to prepare her probaly starting Monday to go to bed at 8:30. I am going to let her watch tv in her room until 9 though then the tv goes off and she has to go to bed.

  • They go to bed at about 10:30 to 11pm on average. Sometimes later. Just depends. We're night owls. My DD is home schooled through an independent study program so we don't have to wake up extra early to drive to school.

  • She gets up at 6am for school. She goes to bed at 7pm. I started the 7pm bedtime two days before school started. Instead of trying to get her into bed earlier I just started getting her up at 6 instead of her usual 8am a few days before school started. After two days she was putting herself to bed early :-) She's 5 and started kindergarten on the 3rd of this month.
