Okay I just don't get it! Let me know what ya'll think!

Okay, My m-i-l is always saying that my 3 1/2 year old son shouldn't play with any kind of toy guns or anything that resembles a gun ( which I totally agree with a hundred percent!) But she comes from the store the other day with candy cigarettes for my son... Now what the heck??? She even let him play like they were real cigs and pretended to light them for him and let him pretend to blow his 'smoke' out the window!!! What kind of sense does this make? I mean I know they are just candy, but toy guns are just plastic... What do ya'll think? Am I over reacting about this? What would ya'll say or do? I need some advice for this one!

  • I was always dead set against toy guns. But my son makes anything a gun. His favorite are those clips you put on chip bags. I have a lot of them and he thinks those are his guns. He is always shooting me with them. He insists we shoot him back and we do. Now he found an actual toy gun that he loves. I've given up on banning guns. I can't believe they still make toy cigarettes. I remember them from when I was a kid. I would be mad if my mom got them for my kids.

  • Where did she even get candy cigarettes? They aren't allowed to sell them anymore.

  • Wait for the right opportunity and tell her nicely you understand her objections about toy guns and the same goes for candy cigarettes. That you don't want your son thinking it's cool and fun to be a smoker. GL

  • Welll, in my opinion both toy guns and toy cigarettes are wrong.

  • I really didn't think you could get them anymore. Does she smoke? I would definitely say something to her, to me that is worse than toy guns.

  • Take them away & tell her they made him stomach sick & not to buy them again. I think some Grandparents lost their brains when their kids moved out. Oye Vey!!!

  • Does you MIL smoke? If so, in my opinion, she making the wrong impression on your child. Smoking is bad. I really didn't know that they still made those.

  • Talk to her about your feelings. I really hope she understands. You do not need to make it a big deal.
