1 Bump

Need opinions quick!

my 3yo starts 1/2day preschool tomorrow morning. well, after her 'orientation' last tue night she caught some bug. she had a high fever (about 102) and was achy and feeling awful and not eating wednesday, did ok thurs so i thought she was better, then was sick again fri and sat morning. i planned on taking her to the clinic sat afternoon but i felt crummy and took like a 2hr nap and when i woke up she said she was fine and her fever was completely gone (took med sat morning but that was the last time) and she didn't want to go to the dr. today she has been feeling better and seems to be back to herself, no fever but she broke out in a sort of rash ALL over her body, its not bumpy but just little red spots all over and her cheeks are really red and kinda bumpy... SO, should i take her to school tomorrow for her 1st day or try and get her into the doctor? what would u do? she is really excited about school though!

  • Take her to the doctor. Don't risk getting all of those other kids sick.

  • ...Doctor....if she's sick, she shouldn't get everyone else sick.

  • Not sure about the dr. I would just play that one by ear. If the rash is gone tomomow and she feels fine with no fever you should send her, but if the rash is still there, I would wait it out, or if the fever returns go to the dr.

  • heh, funny thing is she caught it after seeing 'all those other kids' at her school orientation! so i'm not that worried about her passing it on (i have a 7yo and 1yo who haven't caught it or showed symptoms either)... i just don't know about the rash, do u think the teachers might see it and ask me not to leave her? :-/

  • Her pre-school should have a sick child policy, where they have to be fever free for 24 hours before returning back to school. Of course not every parent follows this rule, thus making other kids sick, but if your dd is not better by her first day of school, explain to her that she doesn't want to make her new friends sick, so they can all be happy and play at school, instead of at home feeling yucky. I know its hard, but its the right thing to do, for everyone.

  • Sounds like strep. And the teachers won't let her stay if she has a rash.

  • Take her to a Doctor

  • doctor, they won't even let her go and stay sick. It would make a horrible first impression to take a sick child in.

  • Usually, schools require that children be fever-free (and major symptom-free--like vomiting) for at least 24 hours before they come to school. If she's feeling better, has no fever or other troubling symptoms, I see no reason to take her to the doctor--she might pick up something else there--but if it's been fewer than 24 hours, I'd keep her home.
