At what age did your child/ren start walking, and by what age is it a concern if they haven't started yet?

  • I have 3 girls and they all started walking at different ages.
    1st Child- 13months
    2nd Child- 9months
    3rd child- 11months

I wont get concerned until they are about 15 months and still arent somewhat walking yet.

  • 12 mos, 14 mos, 16 1/2 mos oldest to youngest. They say you should get concerned around 18 mos if they aren't taking steps - assuming they were term babies with no other developmental delays that you are aware of. And they should be pulling themselves up to things and cruising around before that. I was getting worried with my youngest but he just decided he made mom worry enough and started taking steps. He actually stood up in the middle of the floor before he was "officially" walking!!!

  • DD was 11 months, I think they say not to worry until 18months... I've never personally met a kid over 15 months that couldn't. I think 12 months seems to be about average.

  • My kids both started around their 1st birthday... just a few months before! BUT... every child is different! There are many factors that are involved as well.... Ive heard that babies that are born premature develop at a different pace... also like I said, every child is different! I would ask your dr if you are concerned about it though! Good luck!

  • My son started at 10months... while his cousin who was born on the same day as he...didnt start until 14months...so i think it just depends on the child...i wouldn't be to concern... children will walk in their own time

  • My answer is based on my childrens' ability to walk well (not bobbling/toddling), just to clarify as I imagine some will count from the FIRST step, or what-not.

My oldest son, who has Down Syndrome, walked at 18 months, my second son walked at 9 months, my youngest is only 5 months, so I can't say anything for him yet, lol.
