Federal Appeals Court Blocks Same-Sex Marriage in California as Case Continues

A federal appeals court put same-sex weddings in California on hold indefinitely Monday while it considers the constitutionality of the state's gay marriage ban.

The decision, issued by a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, trumps a lower court judge's order that would have allowed county clerks to begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples on Wednesday.

Quite the roller coaster yes? So its back on hold again.....

  • This shouldn't be shocking.... I mean common sense says to hold off..... what if them appealing works and prop 8 stands? Then the state would have to revoke hundreds of marriage licenses and refund all the money. It would cost a crap ton too!

And this "Supporters argued the ban was necessary to safeguard the traditional understanding of marriage and to encourage responsible childbearing." was their basis from the beginning, I thought you all knew so much about this case.... Walker was the one who denied the relevance that you need a man and woman to make a baby. Just goes to show who only paid attention to what they wanted and actually has no clue of what the proceedings actually consisted of.

They are are saying the ruling "flouted the law and ignored the evidence". And their formal argument didn't have to be turned in till Monday(yesterday still today in Alaska) so their formal argument on appeal won't be released yet.

  • Mormons are all for procreation and marrage between a man and a woman and they are fighting in CA. They need to mind their own business and realize that people love who they love and not who the Mormons tell them to love.

  • Wow, I'm hocked. Those 3 judges must have been the 3 most conservative judges on the panel(didn't know there were any on the 9th) to get that result.

  • They are claiming it harms the stated interest in promoting responsible procreation

People in CA better hope that doesn't fly or they're going to find out a whole bunch of "fixed' people can't get married anymore.
