How old was your child when they learned their letters?

Not being able to sing the alphabet song, but being able to point at letters (out of order) and know which ones they were?

  • My dd was 3. She can also tell you what sounds the letters make. Leap Frog's letter factory dvd helped with all of that!

  • Knowing the letters is great, but knowing the sounds of the letters is even better. It would be great if your little one knew the sounds by the time she starts school- it will make learning to read much easier!!

  • My son had most of them down by 18 - 20 months, but if we didn't talk about them for a few days he'd get confused again. He's 2 now and is pretty solid on about 90% of the letters. He recently started day care and I think that has a lot to do with it. He still mixes a few of them up though. He confuses "H" and "I" a lot because really one is just the sideways version of the other and the same with "M" and "W". He doesn't really associate them with sounds that much at this point though.

  • By 2.5. He learned from Super Why, lol. He's never done the alphabet song, but when my mom got him some magnetic letters, he was already able to point them all out (he'd find the letter I named, and name letters I pointed out).
