How much money do you spend on your child (each child if you have more than one) to comfortably say they are school ready?

I set aside at least 300 for my son to make sure he has his school supplies and new clothes.

  • My kids wear their clothes until they grow out of them. My DD is in Kindergarten this year and with backpack, lunch pail, cup, and all of the supplies I spent about $60. My DS goes to kindergarten next year so I am waiting until school supplies go on sale and I am going to buy all the stuff they need for next year.

  • I spent about $100 or so. Would have been less but she grew out of her shoes and needed a new backpack (the one from last year got a few holes). We buy clothes and shoes as needed when she grows out of what she has.

I know, right? I think I'm definatly going to go over my $300 that I have set aside. I've only spent 150 on my 7yr old son but I am not even close to done.

  • We are pretty much done with school shopping (clothes & supplies) for now. We usually buy a little more as the weather gets colder, but for now, it's still warm so shorts & tshirts are ok. We spent around $200 per child (3 kids-- daughter 14 and 2 sons ages 7 & 11). Fortunately, our parents help out as well, so that helps.

  • Around $150...I get all his clothes from Target and JC Penneys and I hit the sales early. Last week, JCP had the printed t-shirts that he loves for $5.00 each, I brought 6; jeans were $10.00, I got 3 pairs. I never buy "top brand" because I think its silly to spend $25.00 on a tshirt that he's just going to mess up. I like quality stuff but I always look for sales. Old Navy also has jeans this week for $10.00 - I'll be there on Friday.
