What are some great Ideas to get my little man to be creative?

Okay Ive tried painting & Coloring with him but he just doesn't like it. He finds it boring, but I can take out a work book & he'll work in them all day. I want to do arts & crafts, but he just doesn't have the will... anyone got any fun ideas

  • I think he sounds pretty normal for a little boy. He sounds very smart and interested in learning. Maybe you could interest him with books about dinosaurs or science. He might like simple kitchen science experiments. I belong to The Science Spot group, they have lots of activities for different ages. Here's the link:

I wouldn't worry about him being creative. He will find a way to let it out as he grows. My boys used to draw all the time, so we found an art class last year and they love it, but they showed no interest until they were about 8 or 10.

  • Have him cut out interesting items from magazines and glue them into a nice collage design on a piece of poster board. You could see what it is about the work books that he likes- connect the dots? word search? and design some of those for him.

  • There are so many different types of block sets out there on different price levels. You may want to look into one of them. They even have "Harry Potter Legos" which look interesting. Legos come in all different sets. Coloring can be boring after a while.

  • play dough
    cutting and pasting shapes
    story telling
    driveway chalk

I'm with him -- coloring always bored me too LOL

  • Its just not coloring, the chalk doesn't help him either. We do story time every night... Painting bores him.... Cutting is okay with him, but thats all, once they are cut out he doesn't want to do anything else........... Play dough he likes but he likes balling it all up & punching it to make it flat again. Not making shapes or what not. Is this even normal? He just gets sooo bored no matter how fun I can make it.

But when it comes to learning, writing, adding subtracking hes all about it...
