What are blueberries supposed to taste like?

I don't eat them that often but I swear, every blueberry I have ever eaten tastes different than the last! Sometimes I like them, sometimes I don't. What are they supposed to taste like? Sweet?

  • Store-bought in the dead of winter tastes different than store-bought in the summer, fresh-picked from Michigan tastes sooooo much better than the best store-bought, fresh picked in another state will taste different...Idk, I don't think they taste that much different, but the concentration of flavor is different - fresh picked just burst with flavor while store-bought are kinda blah.

  • I agree with you and with 4time-mom. We live in NC. My uncle has a bluberry bush so we usually get our blueberries from him. I tasted some from the store recently and they were sour and bland compared to his.

  • I should add...blueberries are one of the only fruits that I will buy frozen instead of fresh. I usually find that the frozen ones are sweeter than the fresh ones that I have tried from the grocery stores around here. Maybe frozen is the way to go if you are getting consistently bad berries.

  • They are sweet with a bit of a tangy aftertaste. Maine blueberries are the best. I buy them frozen and they are delish.

  • They are sweet, bursting with juicey goodness and a bit if a tangy aftertaste - fresh off the bush in the woods of Maine are the best!
