Is it wrong too.. and is it proper and right too..

Is it wrong to put a 4yr old or 9yr old or any age of a kid in there room if they wont stay in timeout or the conner and when there put in there room they wont stay they come out so is it wrong to make them stay in there by standing there and holding the door shut for the amount of time that there age is for example the 4yr old keep her in there for 4mins and a 10yr old keep her in there for 10mins.

And is it the proper and right thing to do to talk to a kid after timeout to make sure they fully understand why they had to take that timeout so you know there understanding it?

  • I wouldn't hold the door shut. Once the child gets so upset that nearly nothing is going to stop them and holding the door is only going to upset the child more. If you are only going to do timeouts then keep telling them when they come out of the room to go back until your tell them they can come out. Stand your ground, don't let them wear you down.

  • I do not think that there are proper or right ways of doing anything. Its all how we feel is proper. Anyways do I think that is effective? No. I would try as the other poster mentioned a time out place. If they want to come out simply pick them up and put them back on the place. Its all about repetition. It might be 10 times or 20 times of guiding back to that spot that they will realize it is no longer an option to move from the spot until their time is over. Then from that point on you might have to repeat it a couple times during at time out but they will get the hint and not move from that spot.
