How will my 2 1/2 year old react to the new baby?

He's a typical rough 2 year old now, he'll be 2 1/2 when baby comes. Will he understand and be "nice"?

  • I think if you prep him, he'll be fine. My oldest was 2 1/2 when my youngest was born. I kept my son as involved as was possible, given his age. I kept telling him he was going to have a brother or sister, that it was going to be a tiny baby that he had to be very careful around, and love on. He loved to kiss my belly all the time, it was very cute. I would let him hold the baby, but I always made him sit in the corner of the couch or a chair, and put his arm on the arm of the furniture before I handed him the baby, told him to be very still and very gentle. He did fine.

    Good luck, and congratulations!
