What month did you introduce finger foods? What were their first finger foods? How many teeth did they have?

I swear i feel like a new mom again with my 2nd child :) but he only has 2 teeth, and is 8 months this coming week so im curious as to where i should be at. All advice welcome :)

  • I am in the same boat. I have given her a few of those little Gerber Graduate veggie dip things...She did okay with them, but I am not totally comfortable with it yet...it seems like my older daughter was eating little bite sized bits of everything at this age...?

  • I'm not sure what you mean by finger foods. At 6 months I started solids and I never spoon fed. I fork mashed banana and let my babies feed them selves with their fingers.

  • Have you tried those HAPPYBABY Organic Puffs? They are made of fruits and veggies. Google it and you'll see the packaging. Plus ripe bananas are usually a safe bet

  • We went straight to table foods at 7 1/2 months. No spoon feeding or purees so all foods are finger foods. :) My baby has NO teeth at all and is 11 months old. She'll gum anything. Oat crackers, hard crusts, asparagus, mango spears, cucumber spears, pickles etc etc. The sky is the limit really. She loves whole apples and bananas too. We did babyled solids from the start though. Check out Baby Led Solids

I don't do puffs or any of that especially the ones that disintegrate. They do not have the versatility of texture, taste and feel of normal food. just too much processing in my opinon, even the organic ones.

  • My son started with finger foods at 8 months, he had 2 bottom teeth. We started with the Gerber puffs and yogurt melts.

  • My son was EBF until 10 months.... the first foods he started on were sweet potato, banana and avocado. Unless they can pick it up themselves IMO I dont feed them it.

  • Soft pieces of cooked apple, sweet potato, or carrot are good starter foods, but at only 8 months old, I wouldn't worry too much about introducing finger foods yet. Solids (as in mashed baby food solids, not actual pieces of food) are discouraged before at least 6 months. If you introduce foods too early, their bodies won't be able to digest it properly, since their digestive system is still forming in the early months, and it could cause them to develop allergies to some foods. Best thing to give them is breastmilk alone for as you can. ;)
