Breastmilk storage?

Is it okay to use a ziplock for breastmilk storage?

  • I am a certified lactation consultant. It is not okay to use plain ziplock bags, but a double layer freezer bag with the double lock closure will work in a pinch, HOWEVER, it is not a good alternative to a breast milk storage bag. Ziplock bags are not sterile and are not approved for the long term storage of breast milk. I would pay the little bit of extra to have piece of mind about my childs food..

  • the lanisoh storage bags are excellent and I have had no problems with freezer burn or anything with them. Like crunchymama said, ziplocks are not sterile. I would definitely use bags meant for breastmilk.

  • I would use the breastmilk storage bags as they are sterilized and made for that specific purpose. I've been told that ,milk in regular zip-loc bags loses its qualities...
