Have you ever froze apple pie filling?

How did it turn out? I am finding recipies online but my MIL is saying that when you freeze it, it gets grainy... She cans hers. Have you froze it before? Does it get a bad texture? Should I freeze or can it?

  • I've frozen mine for years, never had it turn grainy. I don't defrost it, though... maybe that makes a difference. I put mine in a freezer bag and then in the pie pan to freeze it into shape, then just pop it in the dough when I want a pie and bake. :-) Much easier than canning.
