Is lightening hair wit peroxide a bunch a bull pucky?

I've tried the 50/50 solution and spray method twice and my light brown hair hasn't budged a shade. What gives?

  • it does work, it just takes time. The darker your hair the more it will take. But be warned, peroxide lightens in shades of orange not white or yellow, it usually makes hair look very brassy.

  • I found this article, hope it helps. I remember my mom use to use lemon juice and sit out in the sun, which did work.

  • anything with peroxide or acid based solution will work to change your hair. i don't suggest it at all bc it will be VERY brassy unless you already have blond-ish hair. i suggest getting some caramel-colored highlights for more dimension.

  • If you want to put in highlights, find a peroxide free highlight kit. But if you insist on using peroxide, it takes heat activation - either sun light or hair dryer.

  • You can lighten hair with liquid peroxide, but you have to apply it over and over again so it stays damp. Once it's dry, it doesn't do anything.

It is the harshest way to lighten hair and you'll have the most damage from it.

  • You're going to end up with a shade of orange, and your hair is going to dry out terribly. Peroxide is very hard on the hair.

  • it's not going to budge it the way you want to using it like that..

if you don't have color on your hair.. and it's truly a light brown (around a level 7 or higher) than you can go to a stylist and they can just color it.
if you have color on your hair you have to use a decolorizer first then a toner. (again seek a stylist).

There are soo many shades of blond and a stylist can get you to the exact levelyou want and the tone you want.. no point walking around looking like a carrot or a calico cat when a stylist can do it all in one shot for you.
