Why does natural applesauce have no nutritional value?

Are you better off buying the kind with added vit.c? You would think natural/unsweetened would be better.

  • Most fruits and vegetables contain most of their nutritional value in the skin or peel, and applesauce is made from skinless apples. Plus sugars are added to make it sweet. While there are plenty of vitamins in applesauce and organic varieties are likely healthier, your kids would fare better eating an apple with the skin on.

  • IDK...I always thought that the important nutrients of an apple was in the skin. Maybe thats the reason?

  • I make blueberry applesauce, it's full of antioxidants. The stuff you buy in jars at the store is usually full of added sugars that are unnecessary, better off just making it at home.

  • i've made a spiced applesauce before that I left the skins on (you add cinamon and stuff so it doesn't matter colorwise) you just cook the apples in the crock pot until they're really soft and then put them through a food mill
    its really good
