how can i get my son to sleep on his back?

My son will wake up every 5 minutes when he's on his back. He'll wake up startled as if he feels like he's falling or something or he'll just cry until i pick him up or put him on his tummy. He sleeps great on his tummy but obviously i would rather him sleep on his back because of the risk of sids. Does anyone know at what age it's safe for babies to sleep on their tummis?

  • I was told at the hospital to try to put my Dd on her side, since she really wouldn't sleep on her back at all. The risk of sids lasts until they're a year old, but as soon as they can roll over, it's safe for them to sleep how they want.

  • I'd see if a sleep positioner helps him feel more secure|B000C4PYRI&CPNG=baby&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=B000C4PYRI&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001
its only $10 so its worth a shot...

  • How old is he? I'm guessing he's not rolling over yet? Once he can roll over to his tummy, you can put him on his back but then leave him if he rolls over. Until then - swaddle TIGHTLY :) A loose swaddle is dangerous if they get out of it, and it doesn't help most kids sleep at all, but a nice snug swaddle can help the fussiest sleepers!
