  • snuggles go a long way in trying to calm a baby. have your diaper bag always ready, and try to eave on baby's schedule when possible. For me, I nurse dd, then get showered and dressed, get her dressed, then right after the next nursing we are out the door. Keep things you use often, like diapers and wipes or burp cloths in more than one room. Like if you spend a lot of time in the living room, keep a container of wipes and a diaper or 2 in there. Most of all, cut yourself some slack. Nothing goes as smoothly as you think it will :)

  • Get as much ready the night before. Put it in the car even if you can because guaranteed something will go wrong in the morning.

  • How to get out the door quicker-allow an extra 15-30 minutes when leaving to allow for any minor problems

When baby won't sleep-aroma therapy, lotion for a gentle back rub on baby, low humming reminds babies of the womb, a calming voice, be calm yourself (if you aren't calm, the baby can sense that), sometimes you just need to take a time out and a step back. Allow the baby to cry for five or ten minutes while you compose yourself and calm yourself down before trying again. And for older babies-sometimes they just need to cry (but blowing air in their face can help if they have overstimulated themselves-I LOVED this trick)

  • 1. Consider the next 9 months an external 4th "trimester"; baby should be treated accordingly
    2. Babies are primitive wild creatures adapted to the natural world, the have no concept or tools to deal with modern notions of clocks
    3. All moms get tired; its our responsibility to adapt because we can do for ourselves and babies can not
    4. As your baby grows you won;t have fond memories of an empy sink or sparkling floors -- so don't swaet the chores
    5. Baby wear ! No swing can ever duplicate the warmth and wonder of you
    6. When breastfeeding what goes in must come out! So relax and look at output not input.
