What do you look for in tenants?

My husband and I are in the market to rent a house. Our credit scores are not the best but our income is good and stable. We also have a good rental history while living in apartments and the house in which we live now. We applied today for a dream home and hoping with fingers crossed that we are approved. Our agent says other people have been declined for credit reasons but we decided to apply anyways and offer a longer lease term in hopes that they would approve us.

Would you accept someone as a renter if they had bad credit?

  • i dont worry about credit so much as long term in where they have lived previously, no evictions, long term at a job , etc. I like to meet my propective tenants and chat a bit too. credit in this bad economy is not always in indicator of someone being a good or bad tenant.

  • Honestly people around here don't check credit scores. Not unless they go through a realtor (Which I assume your doing). But here there is no reason to really do that.

  • Good luck! When I rented my apartment I don't think they even checked our credit even though they charged us a fee to do so.

  • Yes I would, I look for good steady jobs and clean people, with a good record of paying their rent.
