Going back to school and Online schools with grants or aid...

Ok I am a SAHM and am looking to take online classes, my questions is what are some good online classes or schools? Do they have aid you can get. I am interested in Medical billing/ Coding because we are a one car family. Any and all help would be very appreciated. I am 36 and really really want this badly!!

  • All accredited schools work with FAFSA. I'm attending American Public University, also known as American Military University. Liberty University is also a good distance learning school. Any though, if they are regionally accredited (not just locally) offer grants and loans.

How to Get an Education Without Going to School

  • Stay away from for-profit schools. They exist, by law, to make money for their owners/shareholders; education is not their priority. When I was in HR, I did not interview candidates from the for-profit schools.

Start with a community college; they will likely have many classes on line and the credits will easily transfer to a state university.

  • I would strongly recommend a community college. A lot of them have degrees that you can get entirely online. They also tend to be a lot cheaper than online schools.

Also call around to some companies that might be willing to hire you once you get your degree.A lot of them won't accept a degree from an online school (University of Phoenix for example). Yes they are accredited, but that doesn't mean companies will accept a degree from them.

  • I go to Columbia College's online school. I would have a really hard time going to school if not for online classes. They have day/evening classes as well.
