If your neighbor has a key to your house and "abuses" it, what do you do?

The lady across the street is retired and has no children. She has a key to our house for just-in-case.
DH owned the house before. His ex girlfriend lived here before he and I met. The ex is still friends with the neighbor across the street.

Well, we were out of town. The ex visited the neighbor and claimed something of hers was in our garage. The neighbor later tells us that we need to set up a time to get this item to the ex.

Well, the neighbor has made several comments about my DH needing to clean out the garage so we can put our cars in it. We have turned it into a work studio. Comments that indicate that she has been in the garage.

I think the neighbor let that crazy ex into my house when I was out of town to look for this car part she says she left here YEARS ago.

What do I do about the neighbor?

  • Like everybody else said, change the locks.

Find a more reliable 'just in case' person if you really need one.

  • Don't tell her if you think that it will lead to an argument. Otherwise, go ahead and change the locks. That way your neighbor and your ex's girlfriend won't get in the house when you're not there.
