  • ask him questions that are not related to anything he did wrong (randomly) as he answers you truthfully give him a reward such as praise for being so big and telling you the truth, or a hug, a special cartoon etc. When you ask him a question when he has done wrong then you tell him sorry wrong answer and he gets no reward. A great way to sho him progress over time is to have a sticker chart on the fridge... tells truth gets a sticker, lies, gets a red X. count per day and if more stickers than X's he gets a movie before bedtime, if more X's no reward.

  • Sometimes kids do not really understand that they are lying at this age... it is a new concept to be played around with and understand. Keep bringing it to his attention and scold him when he does it- reward him when he doesn't. The best thing is to point it out when it happens and explain that it wasn't the truth.

There is a big difference between a 4 year old toying with the idea of lying and a bigger kid telling lies. Keeping on him now will help you when they chose to do it in the future too. :-)
