ovulation with different cycle lengths

my husband and I are trying for our second child. ever since my son was born i have had very irregular periods. there's been times my cycle length has been 43 days then there were times when it was more regular like 30 days. im just wondering how i am suppose to calculate the days im ovulating when im not even sure how long my cycle length is since its different all the time?

  • I've been the opposite. I was really irregular before DD, and the past 6 months or so have been somewhat predictable.

The most reliable way would be tracking BBT and mucus. I HIGHLY recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility, they've got a web site too where you can see other people's charts, track your own, etc. VERY informative.

Also, fwiw, if you're really irregular, there's really no guarantee you're actually ovulating every cycle.

  • I always thought I had a pretty regular luteal phase even though my cycles varied but am now tracking my temps and it is helping me learn a lot about my body. I use Fertility friend anf TCOYF.com Good Luck!
