At what age did your breastfeeding child sleep through the night?!

My daughter is 8 months & still waking every 3 hours at night to eat. She's eating 3 solid meals a day with snack of cheerios. She's my third child but first to be BF this long so I'm unsure if this is normal or not?

  • imo, thats normal.

i coslept, so im sure that had to do with length for me, but my son did not consistently sleep through the night till after he weaned. he rolled over, attached, and went back to sleep most nights though.

  • We do not co sleep. I'm considering it so that we could get more sleep. She's only up for about 15 minutes each time but I feel exhausted. When she was 6 weeks old she was sleeping good 7 hour stretches. After 3 days in the hospital with RSV she has never gone back to sleeping longer than 3 hours. I just can't understand why she was able to sleep longer before but won't now!

  • She's just not a good sleeper period. She will ONLY sleep in her swing and she has to be swaddled. I really wish she would sleep better but with a 4 & 3 year old, i just let her sleep "her" way.

  • 8 mo? You are thinkin' your 8 mo should sleep through the night. How funny!

My 23 mo grandson still nurses 2-3 times a night. My 3 sons didn't sleep through the night until they were 3! It's normal for kids to wake at night (and nurse if they are still breastfed) until they are 3 or older.

  • She's behving normally! The VAST majority of babies wake every 3-4 hours on average for needed feeds and/or peeing. They wake more during growth spurts, teething, and new milestones. In the first year, sleep patterns change a lot and a baby may sleep a long stretch one week during a growth spurt and the next wake frequently. All normal. Sleep patterns don't really settle into a more mature pattern until age three or four. Some babies sleep a lot in the first half of the year, but end up waking more later. There is nothing "bad" about a baby that doesn't sleep long stretches of more than four to six hours...they aren't bad sleepers as some say. They are quite normal. It's actually we adults who have forgotten how to sleep effectively because we clock watch. If you put his crib in you room or sidecar it you will hve an easier time night parenting. BTW cheerios is not a filling snack...its processed air. Try snacks of substanc

  • All 4 of my older breastfed babies slept through the night (10 pm-7 am) by 2 months. My 7 week old is sleeping 6-7 hours at night, so I'm assuming she will be too in the next few weeks.
