what kind of fish is best for pond fish?

im guessing it would have to be seasonal fish since i live in Minnesota and we get hot summers and cold winters. idk if goldfish is best or if it has to be a certain kind of fish?

  • Koi's are wonderful. My Sister in law and her Husband put them in and they are Beautiful. The fish do really well in all seasons and they grow to be really big. You just have to have a Heater in the winter time and also a pump.

  • Koi's and Long Fin Goldfish. (not fancy goldfish) We had a pond with long fin gold fish and feeder goldfish and when the pond froze over with a thick sheet of ice, they were still swimming around in it. Those fish can deal with any weather.

  • koi and long fin gold fish and if you are worried about the pond freezeing completely to the bottom get a bubbler in the pond and it will help with airating the water as well. but they love cold water and do very well.

  • Koiare nice, but usually more expensive than goldfish. I think either would do well, but you may want to try the cheaper fish first :) My IL's had a pond with fish in it all winter, they had a heater and a pump.
