  • I wouldn't worry. My youngest didn't crawl until she was 9 months old.

  • Don't worry about the crawling, worry if he's not pulling up on stuff by 12 months.

  • Crawling isn't a milestone. Some babies just go to walking and learn to crawl later. What matters is getting from point A to point B some way or somehow -- even wiggle-worming or sit scooting.

That said...different surfaces encourage different modes of locomotion. A hardwood floor encourages pulling because it is slippery, carpet encourages scooting because of the friction, grass, gravel, mulch and sand encourage crawling because they are unstable surfaces.

Also a baby in pants or dress may not be able to crawl because on a hardwood floor pants don't allow them purchase the way bare legs do, and legs/knees can get caught in a dress.

  • You shouldnt be concerned at all. Alot of kids dont crawl at 8 months. 9 seems to be the average, but its totally notmal if they dont crawl until after thier birthday or never at all. As long as babies are pulling up and cruising by 13 months you have nothing to worry about :)
