How do I boost my immune system

I have been under a prolonged period of stress (child with special health needs) and my immune system is really down. Keep getting sick and now a nasty skin infection from a rather minor wound. What can I do improve my immune system?

  • You should probably go see a doctor if you have an infection from a minor wound. If you'd rather manage it yourself, I've heard that Vitamin B complex (B, B6, B12) is the most important vitamin for stress management. Also, Vitamin C helps with controlling Cortisol which is a hormone released when we're stressed.

I agree with all the people here who've also mentioned getting plenty of sleep although that may be hard given your circumstances. Maybe you can get help from friends or family members so that you can take a break from the caregiving? Are there any support groups that can help?

    Hope you're feeling better soon!

  • Sleep is seriously underrated. You need to have at least 7 hours every night. Vitamin C is a good choice and a balanced diet and exercise.

  • Definitely not getting enough sleep. Maybe 5 hours a night. Not sure how much I can do about right now. Ike is doing nighttime feeds again, which with his huge caloric needs we have to feed him if he wakes. *sigh*
