How does breastfeeding change your nipples?

Do they make the nipple stay darker?
Does it make the areola stay much larger?
Curious because I have been breastfeeding 8 months and not paid much attention until I saw a question on here earlier about it.

  • Mine look just like they did before I got pregnant. My daughter's almost two now and it's been a long time since I stopped BF. Some people's don't go back to "normal" afterwards, though. Some do stay darker and larger.

  • Mine were larger and darker yes.

Now that I've weaned they are returning to normal

  • Pregnancy makes them darker and larger, not breastfeeding. It is just biology and inevitable.
Some women have more of a change than others.

  • I breastfed for the first year of my daughter's life - she is now 3 and my nipples are still constantly on alert. They have never gone down :(
