Muslim soldier at Ft. Campbell doesn't want to deploy?!

He joined the Army last year. LAST year. Did he NOT think he would deploy? And he's in the INFANTRY! So far, his deployment is deferred. He says he thought he could be a soldier AND a Muslim, but has changed his mind. WHAT? (Hubby had a good buddy at last duty station that is Muslim, and he did JUST FINE, btw). This guys just a whiny little _____ IMO.

  • So why does he not want to deploy? Most soldiers these days deploy somewhere despite the withdrawal of troops recently. Its what the military does.

  • I question why he joined in the first place! Did he hope to gain some secrets perhaps? Now he doesn't want to go shoot some Iranian comrads? I question his loyalty! It doesn't sound like it's w/ U.S.!

  • "I realized through further reflection that God did not give legitimacy to the war in Afghanistan, Iraq or any war the U.S. Army would conceivably participate in," he wrote.

He also said that the consequences that he would face for going would be worse then if he didn't go. It's on HLN. And online. He joined the Army April last year. He had a hard time in basic with name calling, and had to miss prayer time. Stuff like that. But he's got to be smart enough to have thought about all this BEFORE he joined the military. AND aside from that, there are thousands of Muslims in the military other then him. They are just fine, they adapt. They adjust to serve this, their country. He's gonna face court martial, and he's gonna be chaptered. He's fine with that apparently.

  • Earlier today, Quon said Cook submitted a formal written request to Human Resources Command-St. Louis on May 8, 2009 volunteering to serve one year in Afghanistan with Special Operations Command, U.S. Army Central Command, beginning July 15, 2009. The soldier's orders were issued on June 9, Quon said.

  • Lots of people join and don't want to go, the military needs to do something NOW as far as psych evaluations and discharges before it goes on too long. Women with kids who won't go, conscientous objectors, religious differences...oy....ITA what the hell did you sign on the dotted line for and accept all those damn checks on the first and fifteenth for?
