  • To me, it means a unique house, not a cookie cutter house that looks like every other house around it. It needs to have features that make it stand out.

  • house now a days are put up pretty fast and they look like it
a house with character has been made in a time when craftmanship was the ket to building
i usually picture woodwork, could be painted-as that was the thing to do in the 40's
    maybe the doorways are arched
    doors are not hollow core
things look solid beause they are

  • To me, "character" means something that makes the house uniquely itself. My house has character - it was built in 1880. High ceilings, beautiful real wood moldings, glass that you can see bubbles in. We have arched doorways, and the floorplan isn't likely to be seen in modern homes. It's modern (furnishings and kitchen/bath), and classic (in its architecture), and pretty much one of a kind.

  • Usually old houses have character. They have been lived in & maybe added new things/rooms to their liking. Houses with character have personality. They arent plane, or boring. They have that lived in feeling, they have charm, they have personality, good craftmanship, they're usually more unique looking. it's a house that makes you want to look at things & explore. It's a house that would have a lot to say if it could speak.

  • To be it means an older house. Something that was built unique. Not the way you drive down a block and see the same house lined up in rows.

  • it means its not a track home.... when you look down the street it doesn't look like every other house for miles around

  • When you see brand new houses they all look the same. Same material, same shape, same colors, same layout. It's truely boring. However, when you go to see antique or victorian houses they have different shapes, different layouts, different siding, different materials, etc. A house with character is something that stands out from all the other houses. Whether there are all natural, original wood flooring. There are secret passage ways or the windows are a little wavy to the appearence from age. These things that you will never be able to find in new houses or really be able to recreate. There's something special to it, something that makes it unique.

  • I live in a neighborhood of 1958 Brick Ranch homes... they all have the same floor plan, same exterior and same size yard. The only difference might be a little peak in the front. The all are the same... I want a house that has a personality of its own, hence my love of Victorian Homes....
