Paiton [my daughter] is 17 months old, she was born 3/18/09, during the first 6 months of her life, she had physical therapy due to Torticollis, but that has since been erradicated and is no longer a problem, the thing I'm concerned about though, is she isn't walking yet on her own, she will walk small distances, from say my boyfriend over to me, or from a table to me, but she will not walk alone for long distances. All my friends' kids' have been walking since 9-14 months...Should I start to be concerned? This is the only issue I'm having, her pediatrician didn't seem to be concerned at all at her 16 month visit, he even said her verbal skills are months ahead of the 'game'...
Anybody have any ideas?

  • My daughter didn't walk until 18 months. She cruised along furniture forever, but wouldn't walk. Then she just started standing up from the floor for a couple of days, then took off. I think she will get there in her own time.

  • She'll be walking soon. My dd seemed to go from taking a few steps to running in no time lol and yours will too! Every child develops at different rates, so no worries mama. I'm sure she's fine :-)

  • most babies walk by 14 months, all of mine did by 12, did you ask her pediatrician directly about the walking issue? if so and he didnt seem concerned maybe ask for a second opinion.....i know torticolis is a neck pronlem but if she was born with that she may have some other spinal issue. i have dealt with torticolis and as a 24 year old. and it only lasted about a month. although they did say that once it happens it will recur throughout my life. i would definatly get a second opinion just to be safe but maybe she just isnt comfortable walking yet.

  • cassie,
she will walk, but she will only go so far alone, then she will either grab something, or revert back to crawling, no the doctor didn't seem like he seen a problem with it, which i find weird. then again, my little brother didn't walk until he was almost 2, but he was a very fat baby.

  • She is within the normal range of when babies walk. Relax and enjoy
