  • WOW! Really? They charge you? The PTA is free, it's a volunteer thing... Why would they charge?

  • for the directory and because a lot of our programs aren't funded like art and music. Our lunch program is also not federally funded so we can have better choices. It is of course not mandatory to join or pay the fees.

  • PTA is a national organization... if your school belongs to PTA then they are required to pay local, state, and national membership fees. In our area the fees equal out to be about .75 per membership. If your school is not charging fees then perhaps they are not actual PTAs but some other parent organizations with their own by-laws.

  • This could be the difference between PTO and PTA. PTO's are INDEPENDENT and thus often don't have "membership" fees unlike the PTA that are apart of NATIONAL organization, etc. I guess it would be similar to Union vs. Non-Union. I'm sure they both have their pros and cons. However if you are working a "union" job you have to pay union dues. If you are in a PTA then you are apart of the NATIONAL organization have to pay its dues.

All of the schools around here have PTOs So it's FREE!
