Why ask anonymous questions?

Just wondering, why do people ask questions anonymously? I honestly don't understand what the benefit of it is. Maybe I just don't have anything I need to hide and if I did, I just wouldn't ask it here. I'm not trying to bash, I just want to know why it's done.

  • bc sometimes there are questions with a little tmi and some ppl are embarassed to ask, its really no big deal..or sometimes women are afraid of being bashed by the evil stalkers that lurk around here lol...i have asked some anon and some not..

  • If something is embarrassing and too personal then ANON is a nice option. Maybe they don't want everybody to know that their husband is a cross dresser or that they have a third nipple. They can post anon.

  • Sometimes they have friends/family on here and they don't want them to see or the feel embarrassed asking that type of question and the other reasons are that they just want to cause drama.

  • I sometimes ask questions anonymously if I am asking something very personal (health, relationship, sex, etc) - something that I don't want my RL friends, who are also my friends here on CM, knowing about... or my mother! She's on CM too! LOL

  • I've asked anonymously -- 1.), because what i am asking is incredibly embarrassing/private, or 2.) it's something about a hot-button topic - for example, a simple question on breastfeeding - that can easily turn into a FF vs BF debate where all the claws come out!

  • Because they are embarrassed or don't want people throwing it up in the face later. Hell there is a lot of crap people ask in a question that I can't believe they AREN'T using the anon feature. Do they have no shame? =P

  • i thot the same thing when i saw anonymous LOL like for real, u have a screen name u can hide behind

Answer by Patientchild3 at 11:30 PM on Aug. 27, 2010

  • I have never used the Anon feature. I can imagine that there may be the occasional question that they want to ask but they don't want anyone to know that they are asking it. I will have to admit, I can't imagine posting some of the questions myself that I have seen. Not that there is anything wrong with them, I'm glad they feel they can ask them, but I understand the Anon feature.

  • Well, that answer is simple. They don't want anyone to know who they are, lol.

  • I'm not sure either, I guess they think they will get voted down, or they will get bashed. Possibly they think it's a stupid question, could be any # of reasons. I agree if your can't put your name, just don't put in on here.
