Any Nurses out there?

If a child falls and bumps his head what should you look for and concerned with. When is it time to go to the ER?

  • if theyre drowsy, sleepy, or listless or if they have a large knot on their head.

  • check their pupils if they are different sizes, or if they vomit, then you need to get them to the ER

  • ck pupils and see if they are dilating properly. being sleepy, dizzy or lathargic are sure signs you need to go up to the ER

  • if they wanna throw up, and check their eyes - if they look to the right or left and they shake (along with everything said above with the eyes)

  • Call a doctor if a person was pushed to the ground or struck a hard object with the head (tile floor, bathtub, etc) but did not lose consciousness and: Vomits more than once after a head injury, Confusion,Extreme drowsiness/Weakness/or inability to walk, Severe headache,Loss of memory of the event (amnesia), Perseverating (saying the same thing over and over)
    Go to an emergency department by ambulance in the following situations. For people with less severe injuries not requiring ambulance transport, a car may be taken to the hospital:
    a fall from more than the height of the person or a hard fall onto a hard surface or object, Prolonged loss of consciousness (longer than 5 minutes), delayed loss of consciousness (for example, the injured person was knocked out momentarily, was awake and talking, then lost consciousness again

  • if he's queasy, or if there isnt a bump and you think there shoudl be one. i'm not a nurse but i've had quite a few concussions.
