How many people are in your family, and how much do you spend on groceries per week?

There are seven of us in all. I have two babies and I have to buy a can of formula every week and 2-3 packs of diapers a week. There also the wipes. Anyway, my DH thinks I can feed our family and get all the other necessities (toilet paper, laundry detergent, etc.) on $100 a week. I have tried and it's just not working. I make my DH's lunch everyday too. I don't know I really am trying, but he thinks I just don't care and that's not true at all. I would whether go back to work than to stress about going over on groceries again and have my DH scream at me cause I went over.

  • I have 7 in my household, no babies. Just 4 adults, 1 teen, and 2 tweens. My budget is under $300 a month and most months I can spend less, but I don't have the babies in my house and I'm sure I live in an area that cost of living isn't sky high. It isn't easy. It requires planning ahead, shopping carefully, and cooking a lot of things from scratch. I'm sure with 2 babies you wouldn't have the time to do that. If I had two babies, I can surely imagine it would take closer to $500 a month or more.

but since hubby is deployed and it's just me and the kids I spend between $200-$250 a month

  • There are 5 of us, my kids are 5, 16 & 17 plus two cats. I cook dinner every night. I only have $ 75.00 a week for groceries and we get no help or assistance. I make all my own cleaners and laundry detergent, so I don't buy that nor do I buy paper towels. I bake my own bread so that is also not purchased. It is hard. Recently, someone here told me about the Angel Food Ministries. I have a site around the corner from my house. I put my first order in today and it will help us soooo much, I only wish I had known about it two years ago.

  • we are a family of 4 to be be 5
I buy bulk on most things and hubby gets lunch made for him as well..
every two weeks I shop and its normally 200.00
I buy in bulk for items that I want to last ( toilet paper, wipes, diapers, tooth paste, shampoo and conditioner, body soap etc..)
So I buy those Items once a month but sometimes it last up to three months without purchasing those things.

  • Family of 7 (kids are 9, 10, 13, 21 months, and 7 weeks), and we usually end up feeding at least one extra teen/adult every night. I spend between 100-125/week, but that doesn't include diapers, wipes, or formula (I breastfeed - much cheaper!!). If you are really having a hard time, can you not get WIC or food stamps?

  • We typically spend $100/week on those things and we have two adults, a toddler, and a newborn. I think the biggest factor in the ability to do that for a larger group would actually be how much your older children are eating.
