When did you starting giving you kids peanut butter to eat?

I was just wondering because my pediatrician doesn't want my DD to eat peanut butter yet.

  • I'm pretty sure they were more than a year old, but I can't really remember off the top of my head.

  • My DD is 21 months and she's allowed a THIN layer of peanut butter. I asked the WIC lady when I had an appointment if it was okay :P

  • Mine were around 15-16 months and then it was only tastes of it. I waited till they were around 2 to give them sandwiches.

  • My doc gave the okay before my DD was a year, but she hadn't shown any other food allergy or sensitivity. She looooves PB!

  • I think we started giving DS peanut butter around 2 years. He loves PBJ sandwiches.

  • My eldest ate it before 2. With his brother (3) I was told to wait until after 2 because it reduces the risk of developing allergies. My 3 yo was 2 and a half when he had his first pb&j sandwich. :o)

  • They were eating it by a year old - my SIL, who had 2 kids who were allergic to peanuts as young kids, gave them all pb in some form when they were about 9 months old - yes she knew better, but she assumed we'd already given it to them - and yes, I got mad at her every time! But in a way I was glad she did it, I was a little afraid to (even though her 2 boys were the only family history). So yeah, I had no qualms giving them a peice of toast with t super thin layer, or a pbj with a super thin layer, earlier than most parents. All my kids love peanut butter.
