  • Have sex at the right time of the month when you are ovulating. Do not take any birthcontrol. Be an ideal weight. I heard being either to fat or to skinny hurts getting pregnant.

  • Get a book called The Ovulation Method, by Dr. Evelyn Billings. It teaches an excellent form of natural family planning, which is used for both avoiding and achieving pregnancy. It teaches you how to identify within a 24 hr. period exactly when you are ovulating, no matter how irregular your cycles (you can only get pregnant while the egg is alive, and it only lives 12-24 hours!)- and this without any expensive ovulation tests. Then simply have sex during the prime days around ovulation (day before to day after ovulation). Studies show that 85% of women get pregnant when those days are used.

NFP can also pinpoint fertility issues which can help a doctor plan a course of treatment- I used my chart to correct a pogesterone deficiency that was causing miscarriage. (I've been an NFP teacher for 22 years, if you have any questions!)

  • Spend a year in the toughest nursng program in the country, graduate with honors and achieve the highest score on the exit exam in the state. Don't forget to already have more kids than you can afford, a stay-at-home husband and live in a 800-square-foot cardboard box. Get a fantastic job before you even graduate that absolutely depends on your staying there for at least 2 years.

    It worked for me.

  • Chart your cycles, especially basal body temperature and cervical mucus. Cervical mucus will tell you when you're in your most fertile time period, and thus when you have the best chance of conceiving. Basal body temperature will tell you for sure when you've ovulated, and thus when to expect your period and/or when you can get an accurate pregnancy test result. The book Taking Charge or Your Fertility by Toni Weschler and the website are both great resources.

Keep in mind, though, that the average, healthy, fertile couple only has about a 25-33% chance of conceiving during any given cycle, even with perfect timing, so don't be too put off if it doesn't happen right away. Knowing when you ovulate will just maximize those chances.
