We've just recently hired a part time live out nanny....

She will start for us in about 6-8 weeks (4 weeks after he is born) on watching our child in our home on Thurs., Fri., and Sat. only from about 8:30 to 5:30, and is going to charge us $10 an hour, does this seem like a fair price, or are we being had?!

  • $10 an hour seems really cheap for a nanny to me.

I know most nannies who have actually gone to school to be nannies, have all of their certifications etc.. Charge quite a bit more than that.

  • How many children? What are all her duties?

  • $10/hr is on the low-end scale of wages for a nanny. A nanny is not a babysitter. They don't just sit around and make sure your kid doesn't get hurt. They interact with your child and provide educational and social opportunities as well as work on their development. They may also do housework, errands and/or cooking. I work as a nanny and get a minimum of $15/hour.

  • Depends on her training, education, history and all that. If she went to school for it, has a good back ground in it and great references and all that, I'd say you're getting off pretty good.

  • Her only duties are to care for my son...feeding, changing, bathing, etc., she will not be held responsible for any other household chores.

  • Average National Nanny Salaries

Live in (average 45-50 hours - $400-$600 weekly)

Live out (average 45-50 hours - $500-$700 weekly)

    Mother's helper (average - $8-13 per/hour)

  • As long as you don't go below the $10/hour then... it sounds like it's okay.
