Do breastfed babies have to be burped?

I wasn't able to breastfeed unfortunately, and no one I know breastfed/feeds. I was thinking that the baby swallows the air from inside the bottle resulting in gas,and no air in the boobie so...
I never thought about this. Weird I know!

  • They most DEFINITELY need burped! Though there is no air in the breast, they do breathe and gulp while nursing...air in the nose...in the mouth...gulped down into the belly.

  • They still get some air. Babies should be burped after any feeding - breast of bottle.

  • Not usually. Having to burp comes from swallowing air. No air in the breast.
