Do your kids have off for Rosh Hashanah?

If so, what days? My daughter doesn't start Kindergarten until 9/7 and I haven't gotten a calendar yet, not sure if she'll have school. Is is standard to have these days off?

  • In our school system, it's not a day they have off. In a neighboring system the kids can choose not to attend without penalty, but it's not a day everyone has off.

  • I had to google the date, but no. Does her school have a website? Most likely there is a school calendar on there!

  • It does have a calendar, but the darn thing won't load. Sigh.

  • I know we do not, but most of our population down here does not even know (let alone can pronounce) what it is... When I lived in NC (the queen city), it was optional attendance w/o penalty. There are several religious holidays that kids are allowed to take off if they are not scheduled, without it counting as an absence.
Call your district office to inquire about their policy.

  • We don't.... but we only have about 3 Jewish families in town. There are towns near us with a larger Jewish populations that get those holidays off. If you don't just touch base with the principal letting them know you will be taking your children out for the Holidays of your Faith. It shouldn't be a problem. I know here religious holidays are listed as excused absences in our school handbook.
