Have you ever made homemade potato chips?

I'm thinking about making some but I've never made them before. Is it worth it? Are they good?

  • We call them gatorfries and we make them often. Two different ways, for large cookouts we use the little slicer that attaches to a drill and it cuts a whole potato in like 4 seconds. Or I use a kitchen mandoline and fry the paper thin slices in peanut oil or veg oil until the edges just turn brown, you have to salt them immediately for it to stick. We love them, GL!!

  • I tried, but they came out uneven in color. I know that there is some kind of ingredient in commercial chips that keep the color even.

  • note**if you soak your potato slices in white vinegar and water for about 30 minutes, and then let them dry they will fry up white with no brown spots. The brown spots do not change the flavor, we leave the brown, it's really just areas in the potato that contain a bit more starch.
