Have you ever had a blood orange?

We have been watching the food network and they had blood oranges. Now I really want to try one. I found them online for $40. Do they taste that great? Is it worth the $? Thanks

  • they taste slightly sweeter than naval oranges... i wouldn't pay $40 for them personally... its mostly about the interesting color in my opinion

  • They're actually not as sweet as a regular navel orange. They're good for cooking, but I personally don't enjoy just eating them.

  • Elizabiza, I must've had one that wasn't as ripe or something because mine was more tart!

  • oh, yeah, duh i meant they're not as sweet as the naval orange... not as tangy either.

  • I like them and they look nice in things like fruit salad. My son works at a grocery store called Sunflower Farmers Market and they get them. It's a healthier food chain in AZ, TX, NM, CO, NV. I think I've seen them in big chain stores also. They aren't available all the time. They aren't super expensive or I wouldn't be buying them. As the produce person where you shop and they may know if they carry them and when they get them.

  • Yes, I've had one. $40 is way too expensive, I've found them in certain grocery stores. They're good, but not amazing or anything, lol.

  • I liked it but like others have said it's not as sweet. $40.00? Too much. You may want to try other markets. maybe one of them has what you're looking for.

  • Truthfully, they are just a tad sweeter than regular oranges. I don't know that I'd pay $40 for them. What about your local Farmer's market - maybe someone there grows them?
